Trails in the Sky: The best JRPG you haven’t played yet.

Mon, 31st Oct 2011 | Posted by Ross

Hi everyone.  Whilst surfing the web this weekend I came across a fantastic article from Joystiq about Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky called The Best JRPG You Haven’t Played Yet.  While obviously this doesn’t apply to me - as I’ve already completed the game :) - it does manage to describe exactly how I feel about this wonderful game.

To quote from the article: “Few JRPGs blow me away nowadays. For a while, I figured this was because I am cranky and cynical. Maybe this genre just isn't for me anymore, I thought to myself. Maybe I'll never enjoy Japanese role-playing games as much as I did when I was growing up. Maybe I'll never reignite that bliss I felt when I first delved into games like Suikoden and Xenogears. Maybe I'm too old.

Then I played
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky.”

As regular readers of this blog will know, while I am still in love with RPGs, both Japanese and Western, I can empathise with the tone of the article, as Trails in the Sky is the game that reminded me why I fell in love with RPGs in the first place.

I’d like to encourage everyone to go and read the full article here.

I haven't been playing TitS that much at the moment. I've mainly been playing Rune Factory 3 because it's so addictive :D. It's probably going to take me a few more weeks to complete TitS and then I can continue with Persona 2.

i read the whole article, and i must say it really made up my mind to order this game, is there still poster avaible?
[GL] Ross says:

@Chrono I've checked and we do still have posters available :)

Xenogears...I have such great memories of that game. It continues to be one of my all time favourites. My copy is well-worn and much loved. RPGs are pretty much all I play, but it's true that decent ones are few and far between these days. It's a shame too, because I absolutely adore them. My Japanese has gotten poor since I started working and lost a lot of my free time, so these days I don't tend to import games anymore. Good job Ghostlight exists! :-)

Think thats why im enjoying tits so much. They dont make em like they used to and even though its not old it does feel in my eyes at least, like chrono trigger, sword of mana old skool. Loads of rpgs these days are present or sci fi so its good to have a nice fantasy setting again. Just like when I was growing up :) The only gripe ive got is the battle music doesnt really get me all in the mood for a fight.

Just wondering would you (as a company not you personally) ever be interested in translating games for an EU release on the Psn? I ask becasue I am playing Warsong on the Megadrive and would love to play the rest but that will never happen then I thought how many good games like that are out there on the Asian Psn, Is it even possible to do such a thing?
[GL] Ross says:

@Barry Walsh It really depends on the game. we've done localisations ourselves before and we've released straight to PSN before but it really would depend on if it was viable for each individual game.
Persona 2 Fan says:

Only 1 Day in New Zealand untill the wonderous Persona 2 gets released!!!!!!!!
Austria_Summoner says:

I live in Austria and my question is, will Persona 2 and Trails in the Sky be released at 4. November?
[GL] Ross says:

@Austria_Summoner Our distribution partners have set different release dates for some countries. In the UK the general release date is 4th Nov. I'll see if I can find out for you what the situation is in Austria.
Austria_Summoner says:

That would be very friendly
[GL] Ross says:

@Austria_Summoner The distributor is Flashpoint and they've yet to confirm their release date with us.
