Ghostlight Blog

On the nature of Fate, War and PS2. Another Ghostlight blog...

Thu, 16th Feb 2012 | Posted by Al

Note: As Ross is ill today (get well soon!) I'm posting this on his behalf) - Thanks! Al :)

Hi Everyone.  Since I posted last week’s blog our amazing Valentine’s Sale has started.  With savings of up to 66% and exclusive previously-unreleased posters being sent out with selected games there are some fantastic bargains available.  The offer ends Monday 20th February, so with only a few days left you should definitely go and check out what we’ve got on offer over on the official sale page.

Anyway, that’s enough of the salesman act.  Aside from our terrific offers there’s lots of other news here at Ghostlight. Fate/EXTRA is coming along very nicely. So nicely in fact that the code is already going through the approval process with Sony.  While I can’t spill any more beans yet, I believe we should have a release date plus details of the special Collector’s Edition for you shortly..

I’ve been working on Agarest: Generations of War 2 this week and so far, while there are several radical changes from the previous two games in the series, I am really enjoying it.  The combat feels slick and fluid and the presentation has really stepped up since the previous games.  Not only that, but I’ve really been impressed by the way commissions/titles are integrated more closely into the game itself.  Those of you with a similar sense of humour to me will be pleased to note the Jumbo Cock also makes a return this time around :-).  I hope that’s whetted your appetites somewhat!  I’m sure I’ll be back with more thoughts on Agarest 2 closer to release.

In the comments section of the last blog post, dgnfly picked up one of the hints I made a few weeks ago and asked if we were planning on putting any of our PS2 games on the PSN.  At the time I couldn’t reveal anything, as we were awaiting Sony’s announcement, but since the cat is now out of the bag and several PS2 games are already on the PSN Store, I can now tell you all that we will be bringing Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga and Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga II to the PSN Storein the near future.

Finally, on to Chart Watch: Persona 3 Portable has re-entered the PSP Chart in 8th place, nudging Persona 2: Innocent Sin down to 9th and Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky down to 10th.

I’ll be back next week with news for all our Australian fans regarding Persona 2’s eagerly awaited arrival on the PSN (SEN?) Store down under.  Until then, why not follow us on our Twitter and Facebook pages, our Youtube Channel and our  Google + account, where we’ll be posting all the latest news from Ghostlight? You can also follow me on Twitter for a more personal take on all things Ghostlight.

Brilliant news on the ps2 games, It would be cool if one day Lucifers call went up there as well.
Rena says:

Keep the Agarest War 2 Background on the page plz
garethj says:

Do these games run at 60hz?
Pepsi_Biofusion says:

Depending on pricing I may pick up a ps2 game or two on the PStore. I actually have a question, or rather, concern, regarding Agarest 2, its looks brilliant in all but a quick peek at its Youtube videos had a scene where, perhaps, it'd gone to far with its themes. I'm refering to the dog licking a girls certain something, I don't mean to be "that guy" but is this scene going to be avoidable or censored at all? I know its a mature game, and I may be the only one, but that has me worried, is Agarest 2 just playful in its sexuality (Like previos games) OR is it actually quite sexist? Sorry about the downer just a concern but I'm sure you'll do a great job like with Agarest Zero :)
Dominic says:

I'm guessing TitS will take a little longer to arrive on the AU store then? :(
Ailtin says:

Get well soon Ross ! :D
Cam says:

oh god yes :'D so so happy if dds comes to PSN
Belphegor86 says:

@Pepsi: Agarest 2 unfortunately steps it up a notch on the "adult content". It's still trying to play on the whole ambiguity angle but from what I've seen so far they've probably taken it a step too far (hell this time round there is actually a massage mini game that uses the PS move feature). But as with the rest of the games in the Agarest series, character CG events like this are entirely optional so you don't have to view them if you don't want but that may mess with affection levels and your chances of accessing the True End.
Bojan says:

Hi Ross, grea news! I wanted to ask u is it possible in near future to have Shadow Hearts 1,2,3 on PSN? I would die for that! Greets from Croatia! :)
Pepsi_Biofusion says:

@Belphegor86: Thanks for the heads up, I am slightly disappointed especially as I allways follow the true route, but I'll certainly give Ghostlight a chance to do a good job and give us a great CE as Agarest Zero exceeded my expectations, especially the CE. This year looks insane for PS3 JRPGs, Hyperdimension Mk-2, Atelier Meruru, Tales of Graces f, Agarest 2, Rainbow Moon and probably more I've left out.
dgnfly says:

yay i asked cause i owned most off your games on ps2 but some off em diden't work anymore on my fat ps3. can't wait 2 see em on the store.
Riva says:

Oh boy this year is going to be insanely good with all the JRPGs that's coming to the PS3! I'm buying both DDS games the instant it releases on the store :)
Chris Geisteblitz says:

Fantastic news! Can't wait to play the Digital Devil Saga! Hope Lucifers Call will be released too. I wonder what the price will be...
Ben says:

@Bojan: I don't think Ghostlight have the rights to Shadow Hearts 1 and 2. Midway published the first two in Europe. Only the third was by Ghostlight. It's just a pity (or not) that I already have DDS 1 & 2, so this PSN release is no good for me. I'm hoping for Lucifer's Call eventually too, though.
Belphegor86 says:

@Pepsi: If your that put off by the scenes you can always just enter the event and hit the skip button and leave it to fast forward through it in the background whilst you do something else - that way you can still get the associated affection bonuses without having to watch it. This year does look to be a good one - I'll probably skip Neptunia Mk2 myself though the exclusive NISA limited edition is tempting. ToGf is a definite for me (despite me owning the Japanese version) as is Meruru and Agarest. Also will be picking up Fate/Extra and fingers crossed we'll see the new Fire Emblem and Suikoden games in the West this year. Would also hope for Tales of innocence R for the Vita and Tales of Xillia but that's probably pushing my luck. And not to forget some of the awesomeness that Atlus/Xseed are localizing this year - come on Ghostlight you know you want to bring some of these over to the EU! So yeah 2012 looks to be a very good year. :D Shame I won't be able to play any of them with writing my thesis :(
Tom says:

Suikoden 3 never got a PAL disc release it would be great to see that up for PSN download, do you have any ingentions to publish more PS2 games on PSN (not just ones you've already published in disc format?
H K says:

maybe its kinda of early to ask...but whats the price range for the ps2 digital devil saga games gonna be like on store?
dSkuld says:

Will SMT: DDS an SMT: DDS2 be released on the Australian PSN/SEN?
[GL] Ross says:

Sorry for the delay in replying everyone. I've been ill the last few days. @garethj DDS2 does run at 60Hz but the first one doesn't. @Pepsi_Biofusion Firstly I must confess to being at a slight disadvantage because I haven't managed to get to most of the racier stuff in Agarest 2 yet however so far what I've seen has been in keeping with the previous games. I can't comment either way on later scenes though. As a matter of principle we prefer to avoid censoring our game where possible but I recognise this could leave you in a position where you feel uncomfortable with the content of this particular game.
[GL] Ross says:

@Dominic Yes it probably will. I'm hoping to have a date for that soon as well though :)@Ailtin Thanks @Bojan & @Ben As Ben says we only published the 3rd Shadow Hearts game in Europe. Rights for all our other PS2 JRPGS are being handled on a game by game basis so fingers crossed but we'd like to be able to put some more up there :). @Chris Geisteblitz & @H K No news on pricing yet I'm afraid. @Tom As far as I'm aware it's not something we have any plans to do at the moment. @dskuld I'm looking into this for you and I'm hoping to get an answer soon.
Serph says:

Will the download versions of DDS 1 and 2 use the virtual PS2 memory cards you can create yourself on PS3? (look on the memory card utility on XMB) You know like PS1 games downloaded from PSN share the same save storage. Just wondering because Digital Devil Saga 2 lets you import your DDS1 save data and if both games keep their own little virtual memory cards apart from each other like recent PS2 downloadables on PSN then we won't be able to access the hidden extras you get from playing both games. Hope this made sense ^^
[GL] Ross says:

@Serph I believe you should be able to load save data from the previous game into 2 but I'm not completely sure. I'll look into it for you.
[GL] Ross says:

@dskuld Further to my earlier answer I've been informed that we're planning to release both DDS games in Australia.
Pepsi_Biofusion says:

@Belphegor86: NISA are down to there last 100-or so Hyperdimension Mk-2 CE sets so it seems popular. I've never played a tales game before so I can't get my hopes up just yet and Atelier Totori was FAR too similar to Rorona so I'm cautious of Meruru. Tbh the JRPG I'm most excited for this year is Final fantasy X HD. @Ross: I can't tell you how much of a prick I felt raising concern about an un-released game but I was worried, I don't mind silliness or provocative content but there are limits BUT thankfully from what you say, and the rest of Youtube, it appears to be an isolated issue that I can easily overlook. So I apologise for inflating a minor issue.
[GL] Ross says:

@Pepsi_Biofusion No worries. I'm always happy to eanswer any questions (within reason :)) and I can understand wanting to make sure it's something you're comfortable with before you buy it. I'd take what I'm saying with a pinch of salt as I haven't seen all of the game yet (the scene your talking about is new to me).
Sam says:

Nice news about Fate/Extra. I really liked the fighting game -published by Capcom. And some PS2 rpg won't hurt either
Dominic says:

Ross, just FYI, shortly after posting my comment I went on the AU PSN Store to find that TiTS was available for purchase! Its release date was shown as 15/2, so it must have gone up with the most recent store update. I haven't checked it again recently though so maybe it got taken down since then. The price is a bit dear ($50+) so I think I'll wait for a (potential) Sin/TiTS double pack like they have in Europe.
Randall b says:

Just wanted to hop on here and voice my frustration that u had to read that eu and aus are both going to be playing dds1/2 long before a ton of Altus us fans will, if there's anyway you can fund some USA love it would be appreciated , since my 5th ps2 burnt out I got rid of my originals :(
Dominic says:

@Randall b - Not to go all "our woes are bigger than yours" or anything, but as far as Atlus games are concerned, EU/AU fans get the short end of the stick considerably more often than their American counterparts. The games either take several months to come here (Catherine, P3P) or just plain don't (Radiant Historia, Devil Summoner 2, Devil Survivor, Strange Journey). In any case, you should probably be contacting Atlus USA, not Ghostlight, if you want to see SMT games on PSN.
KoolZoid says:

@Dominic - man, you brought up Devil Summoner 2... even after all this time, that's a sore point with me :P I wanted it released here! And the Raidou plushie... @Ross - Well, PSVita is out and like a lot of people I'm wondering about the oft-mentioned ability to unlock downloadable versions of UMDs we've got to play on the Vita - specifically, my P3P and P2:Innocent Sin games from yourselves. Is there any info you can provide on the subject?
[GL] Ross says:

@Randall b You're going to have to talk to Atlus about that one as we only have the European rights to these titles :) @KoolZoid Sadly that feature seems to have become stuck in Japan. Sony have announced that due to a lack of demand it's not going to be coming to the US or Europe.
Falco252 says:

Ghostlight, you're the best. Company, ever.
