Elminage Original comes to Europe

Hi everyone.   After yesterday’s warm up announcement from Microsoft, it’s time for the main event. :)  As promised last week I’m delighted to announce that our latest PSP game is the fantastic first-person dungeon crawler, Elminage Original developed by Starfish-SD of Japan.  I’m also pleased to say that our version will include the improvements to the translation made in the recent patch.

We’ve been testing Elminage Original in the office for quite some time now and personally speaking it’s quite reminiscent of old school Dungeons & Dragons or the classic Wizardry series, both in terms of atmosphere and mechanics.  Certainly anyone who, like me, fondly remembers THAC0, will really enjoy this one.  Although a word of warning: it is rock hard at points, just as a good RPG should be :)

More on Elminage Original

Set out on a grand adventure in the land of Halodra Ille! The fate of this world hangs in the balance as the magical barrier protecting it has been severely weakened by the powers of darkness.

In ages past the gods granted power to six rings to create the barrier. The rings were placed in a tower known as Dragon's Fang, safe from the enemies of peace.

But nothing is forever, and now dark priestesses plan to destroy the barrier so they can summon their Demon King and plunge the realm into darkness. The priestesses have already destroyed one of the rings, weakening the barrier greatly, but in doing so the five remaining rings were scattered to the ends of the realm.

With the barrier weakened, monsters of ever greater power and ferocity have begun to appear throughout the land. You must join the search for the five remaining rings, taking your place among the other adventurers of Halodra Ille, and restore balance to the world!

Elminage Original features:

  • Classic First Person Dungeon Crawling
  • Hugely rewarding turn-based combat with a wealth of enemies to encounter
  • Tackle dozens of quests in any order you choose
  • Massive variety of dungeons to explore
  • Create Your Party: Many races, jobs and skills to master

So, is there going to be a boxed Collector’s Edition, I hear you ask?  Well, it’s not been decided yet but rumour has it that there might be a special promotional version in the works.  If it goes ahead, stock of the Special Edition will be very limited indeed and the game will not be released in a standard version, so it’ll certainly be one for all you fanatical collectors out there.  The game will be available this summer and I should be able to confirm a release date for the PSN version and details of the Special Edition in the next couple of weeks. :)

That’s all for now. I’ll be back next week with more news from Ghostlight. Until then you can follow Ghostlight on our Twitter and Facebook pages, our YouTube Channel and our  Google + account, where we’ll be posting all the latest news from Ghostlight.  You can also follow me on Twitter for a more personal take on all things Ghostlight.

I know Ghostlight is in Europe but is there any chance you might bring Elminage to North America? I would gladly download the game on the North American PSN servers if you did.

If the physical release is happening, I'm in. How about giving the same treatment to Unchained Blades?

BTW, could you please do something about the character names covering the portraits? It looks incredibly stupid.

Hi ! This is THE new I was looking for ! Will it still be possible to load own characters icons ?

I'm interested in this game, but am genuinely worried, what with the lack of quality control at Ghostlight that this will be another Devil Survivor situation, did you actually playtest the game prior to releasing?

I'm quite pleased that other Atlus games have gone to more capable publishers. But yeah, genuine question here, can you 100 percent promise us that this game Elminage, will work as it should, and not be a crippled release with some random, game breaking bugs not found in other regions releases?

Just how did you break Devil Survivor Overclocked anyway? Did you fire the guy who messed with the games code or something? I seriously doubt Atlus Japan sent you a broken game, why would they?

Nice, I'm looking forward to this! XD

Although I have to admit that I somehow hoped that the next game you guys had in the works would be Fate/EXTRA CCC or the renewed Persona 2: Eternal Punishment... is there still some reasonable hope left for these titles? (Please, tell me there is...T_T)

Nethertheless Elminage IS a nice addition to your selection of games! XD

Any chance for the 3DS entry of Elminage?

Came out in America last year. Why can't you guys publish games that have not been translated. I've already played this game. You guys need to reassess your business model to be more successful. Releasing obscure games that a lot of people have played on dead systems isn't the way to go.

I would gladly buy one or two copies of the UMD edition, it's great you're thinking about a physical release for such a niche game :)

Why do they insist on making dungeon crawlers first person? That really ruins it for me

Whats the situation like with the DSO patch?

This certainly explains why UFO Interactive wasn't replying to my tweets where I was asking when the game would get a European release. SOLD!

Would buy, that is: if Ghostlight would not make deals with local distributors this time and deliver it to my country. ;-)

I hope I'll be buying the physical copy. The game looks great.

Cool :O

Maybe you can go gaijinworks style (Class of Heroes 2), and just make a poll and print that many physical editions? :)

Much better than the Xbox event.

Is there any news of some PS2 classics on PSN? The SMT Raidou Kuzunoha games would be very much appreciated!

@SMTFtw Here we go again....It's not GL's job to test that game, they're just the publisher. Any bugs that arose after GL got the game have a high chance of originating from poor coding by ATLUS. Seriously, with what GL would've changed to localize it, the code they would've changed would not interact with the actual gameplay code.

Additionally, none of the bugs were game-breaking. Annoying, yes, but not game-breaking. Show me a modern game of this size with zero bugs at all. Incredibly unlikely that you'll find one.

@SMTFtw Whoa man, Overclocked was the first time ghostlight has made a mistake and they were very good in getting said mistake fixed, Nintendo was pretty slow getting te patch out, but that wasn't ghostlight's fault.
You're way over-reacting if just one slip up(that was fixed) is enough to make you act so disrespectful to a company that has bought us many titles we wouldn't of got otherwise.

@codshinI asked about Fate/EXTRA on last week's blog, They said was unlikely :(

@knownaim I don't have any news on that but I will suggest it to the rest of the team.

@Yu Izanami Narukami

Yeah, the only time I actually *needed* Ghostlight was with DS:O, and this drama still goes on. The availability of all PS Stores everywhere kind of makes their business model silly.

@Yu Izanami Narukami "Why can't you guys publish games that have not been translated."

They did, once, and the results weren't pretty.

@Devon Philippides How do you prefer your dungeon crawlers? Overhead roguelikes like Nethack /  Shiren The Wanderer / Mystery Dungeon / ZHP? Or isometric third person like Diablo / Torchlight etc?

@Rini11The patch is nearly ready to go, there are no problems with it from Nintendo so it's looking good. We will announce a firm date as soon as we have it.

@Red91

  It is absolutely the job of Ghostlight or any publisher to test their games prior to releasing, do you not understand how the game industry works? Publishers have game testers, and quality control that their games go through prior to releasing.

The fact you're blaming poor coding suggests you do not understand at all. It's not the fault of poor coding, more the fault of someone messing with the games code and breaking something that wasn't broken to begin with.

Ghostlight don't localize anything, all the dub and translation work was done already by Atlus of America, infact if the games coding was so 'poor' how do you think they managed to translate and dub it and release BUG FREE in America?

These bugs WERE game breaking, show me one JRPG that was brought over here in recent years that was bug free in America and Japan but riddled with bugs in the European release, besides this one at least.

Ghostlight need to explain how they broke the game, Atlus Japan aren't pleased, infact 2 different companies are publishing Soul Hackers, and Shin Megami Tensei 4 on the 3DS lol.

@Red91 It is, however, Ghostlight's responsibility to QA the game. That's what publishers do.

Hibiki Kuze
Hibiki Kuze

@Red91

 It's not there job to test the game? You're joking right? Every publisher on this planet has quality control and ensures that a game is tested prior to release. It is absolutely the job of Ghostlight or any publisher even to ensure that a game is working as it should be prior to release.

 Blame poor coding if you want, I blame someone messing with a games code and a lack of quality control(Back on my original point about the bug not being in the American or Japanese editions).

Lastly, they were game breaking  Atlus Japan had to fix Ghostlights mistakes, no wonder they haven't got the publishing rights to the other 3DS games.

BenoitRen
BenoitRen

@Chris What do you mean, fixed? There still isn't a prin run with the patch included, and I'm being led to believe that the patch isn't even on the eShop yet.

Hibiki Kuze
Hibiki Kuze

@Chris

 How am I being disrespectful? Because I'm not kissing ass and telling them how great they are? You need to learn to deal with the fact that people will be critical over this.

This 'Mistake' could of been avoided had the company not messed with the games code, and if the company actually play tested the game prior to releasing, thus my point about quality control is perfectly valid, how in the world could anyone miss these 'bugs'?

Where is this fix? So far for 2 months we've had nothing but talk. About a patching process with no evidence to suggest a patch even exists even. Not even a video that shows a fixed edition.

@ste_uk83

I just read your post from last week.

How sad. It would be a bloody shame if the game should never get a release over here... especially since I really enjoyed the first one. T_T

I really love those japanese niche titles and since Ghostlight's line up was very appealing to me. I almost purchased every title published by them over the years so I somehow hoped there'd be enough others who feel the same since there's a demand for these kind of games. (-_-)!

@Hibiki Kuze And now the comment I replied to has just disappeared.  It's showing in the admin system so I'm guessing Livefyre is having some problems at the moment.

@Hibiki Kuze I can't see any censored comments on the system.  It does automatically filter out swearing into the moderation queue but at the moment I can't see anything there.

Hibiki Kuze

Seriously? How is this comment in any way offensive? It's been censored twice now by someone. I have screenshots showing that anything that could be described as critical is being censored here. How about answering my points instead of doing this?

Taking screenshots of everything I post here to repost elsewhere is tiresome.

Ghostlight are censoring critical comments now. Hilarious.

Give me a few minutes to retype my response.

@Red91

 Must be a record there, a patch to fix a game that wasn't broken to begin with in other regions. I genuinely do not know of any JRPG that has been through this before.

Red91
Red91

@BenoitRen It is. I downloaded it about 30 mins ago. Dunno if different regions will get it a different times, but I'm in the UK.

Hibiki Kuze
Hibiki Kuze

@angie winterbottom

 That's good, though we wouldn't of needed a patch had the game been tested properly prior to release.

Which was mostly my point.

ste_uk83

@BenoitRen@ste_uk83Newsflash! that is called an opinion, everyone has one, Sometimes they even differ. (crazy huh?) just because you didn't like it doesn't mean it should be written off

@codshin @ste_uk83 Why would it be a shame? The original FATE/Extra was a glorified rock-paper-scissors game. Talk about engaging.

ste_uk83
ste_uk83

@codshinThere is still a chance Aksys might release it in the U.S, Just a matter of importing it then. Apparently they have 2 titles to announce at this years e3.
