DSO - Latest information from Ghostlight

Hi everyone, thank you for your patience. As you can imagine we have had a busy couple of days here at the Ghostlight offices.

To give you an update of where we are... We have been in contact with Atlus who are already looking into fixing the possible causes of problems when summoning a demon in to a battle along with the intermittent crash found in the Auction House.  Nintendo have also been contacted and will be able to help us both quickly and efficiently through the process of looking at a patch solution.

Sorry that we don’t have any more news for you at this time but we are working as fast as we can towards a fix. We appreciate your words of support and continued patience through our first release on 3DS.

Kind regards,

Ghostlight

The Patch is neccessary! Really.!! Now here is a 3 rd Bug. Do not close your your 3DS if you Summon a Demon, cause here freeze the Game ans the 3DS completley and the monitor goes black. It doesn't matter if it Summoning has already unfreezed or not! You can't use your 3ds and return to the home Menu. Also  you can't shut down the Power because all Buttons are freezed. Only ejecting the the cardridge helps! Guys really, no localisation in the different languages ( german, italian etc.) and then this bugs! What is it with you Game Programmers and -Publishers, that you sell Games that are NOT really ready and full of Bugs? This is the 3rd Game for DS/3 DS that i have bought who is not really playable .. Those games are Expensive!!! You can't buy them for a sugarcube!!! So, please do us all a favor and made a quallitiy check on this games, before selling them! The ds/3Ds is NO PC where you can have a lots of different Systemfeatures. It is a closed of System, where you can work with and do it, please!

I am really pissed off!

How big of a deal is this? Is it safe to play the game or is the patch necessary?

Well I m just going to buy a US 3DS next month for Soul Hackers and SMT4, I m not going to wait another 1 or 2 years because Ghostlight are incompetent to bring something here in time. And when when they bring it it's 2 years after and with bugs. No pre order bonus for France, Italy or Germany either, so what's the point ? Well there isn't any.

ldave82

Heya, did everyone already got their pre order copies of the game? I have the 2 posters, but not the game.

Well the game turned up from Amazon today, but I am not busting off the cellophane till I see a confirmed patch date.  30 days & counting,  No patch, no dice, returned!  Monster Hunter will keep the 3DS warm for the meantime.  As mentioned in an earlier comment, bit poor this was not picked up during testing.  Guess I am thankful tis a game & not a car...

That said, ya have to give Ghostlight some credit for taking the honest path, kudos.

I received the game yesterday, but i think i'll wait to play it until a solution to the bugs is provided. I know the main priority is about the bugs that freeze the game, but i hope you'll fix also minor problems like the first name-second name switch.

For anyone contemplating whether to get the game or not I'd say go for it. Whether the bugs get patched or not this is still an awesome game and these bugs are pretty don't really hinder any of the enjoyment of it. I'm already close to finishing my 3rd playtrough and haven't had much problems from the bugs.

The summon bug never really affected me since I never really used that feature and the auction house one is so rare I never even got it. This is just my own personal opinion but I really don't think fans should hold themselves back from getting this game just because of a couple of bugs that barely affect it.

Hey, really looking forward to this but still not sure if I should start the game or not. Its a shame a bug of this magnitude has shipped live and Im sure that its not been done  on purpose. What happens if you can't get a patch sorted out ?

LukasHaule

appreciate the forthrightness of the updates. It's a shame this happened. I would love to see better (and more timely) JRPG support on 3DS. I hope this is resolved quickly, painlessly and without undue harm to anyone's reputation, and certainly none which would impact future releases.

I havn't bought the game yet, I'll grab it when this is fixed.
Thanks for being honest with everybody.

It's good to know a patch is coming. Despite the issues, I'm having a blast with that game regardless and finally made it to the seventh day.

I was afraid you'd do a Trade-In and I don't feel like beating Beldr and Belial again from scratch. ^^"

I know this is isn't ideal but thanks for stepping up Ghostlight and admitting to the issue.

One thing I have found when you do a summon in battle, closing the lid on the 3DS and leaving it for a minute or so (if the screen is black when you open the console, close it and leave it a little longer), then opening the 3DS again the game is waiting for me to select a demon to replace. This isn't guaranteed to work each time, though I haven't had it not respond eventually as yet.

@yojvl1993 Verás como son las 2 semanas que dijimos. Lo mínimo tras meter la pata, una para localizar y reparar el error, y otra de pruebas

I don't g et it, Ghostlight took 18 months to bring this game over and actually managed to ADD problems to it?!

Atlus I think you need to use someone else

Isaac

Hope you manage to sort things out. I definitely appreciate your efforts to try and bring the SMT series over here despite problems like this, as Atlus themselves don't seem willing to. Think a EU release of SMT4 will be on the cards?

Why has the comment section in the previous blog post been disabled?

I hope you'll find a fix for these bugs soon, and that Spain's release date (middle of April by Badland Games) isn't affected.

Hopefully a working patch will be released soon

I'm glad to know that you are working on it, I hope that it will be repaired soon.

Can you fix the minor text issues (name switches & underscores) at the same time please? Since I assume they're not important enough to get a patch on their own it would be nice if they were rolled up into this one.

Good to hear. Hopefully these bugs get fixed soon. Much appreciated Ghostlight for the updates.

@ninja101 You can play the game although it is not ideal.  You need to remember though that if you summon a demon in battle the game freezes for roughly 4-5 minutes before resuming and that you should save before entering the auction house as there is an infrequent hang there.

@ldave82 We've heard from a lot of people who have received their copy.  If you let me know which country you live in I can try to find out the estimated delivery time from Royal Mail.

@ldave82  Other way round for me lol. Got the game but not the posters yet...

Red91

@cindemon You're missing out. All you have to do is wait a few mins when summoning a new demon (annoying, but not game breaking), save before you use the Auction House and swap your first and last name when naming your character.

The only 'game breaking' bug there is the Auction House, but as long as you save before using it, you're gonna be fine.

Seriously, just play the game, it's great!

@andy The name issue has also been brought to the attention of the dev team.

@munki83 I have the same fear or what if the patch doesnt get released and we end up exchanging the game for another one?

@PaulTeevan Who else is there? It's not like we have companies fighting over publishing relatively obscure JRPGs in Europe, there's only handful grudgingly willing. Most of the games Ghostlight have published would probably never have made it to Europe without them.

Red91
Red91

@PaulTeevan I'd like to see you do better! Besides, it seems like a lot of these issues were in the US release as well. Not only that, but this is the first game Ghostlight have released on the 3DS.

Come back when you have something useful to say, instead of whining and insulting the company who too the time to bring this game over here, which they were under no obligation to do.

@Isaac We're aware of the interest in SMT IV but at the moment I don't have any news to share with you about that title.

@Chaosprower I'm not able to put up blog posts from home so someone else put that one up.  Since comments aren't enabled by default I guess they just forgot to enable them when they posted it.

@Tom I'll make sure they're brought to the attention of the devs.

@Ross Brierley Thanks for the response! The auction house doesn't sound to bad, but how often is demon summoning done?

moki

@Red91 Are you joking? My copy goes back to Amazon. I just ordered a 3DS XL US Import, and will play this game bugfree and get many more great (S)RPGs now and not in 2014/2015.

@Red91

This is the exact same game as the North American version. Ghostlight didn't have to translate anything. All they're doing is adding their logo as a splash screen before the title screen and submitting it to the ratings board. That's it.

In this light, it's amazing that they managed to add bugs that were not in the North American version.

dakaze

@Red91

Are you delusional or just another zealot? the point of our ramblings is that there is NO SUCH BUGS in the U.S release of the game, and as ghostlight keeps telling us that the testing is what took so long to get DS:O out we are just wondering what is it that they tested.

Ross Brierley
Ross Brierley moderator

@ninja101 @Ross Brierley It depends I'm playing through it at the moment and I'm not using it too often but it will depend on how many times one of your demons is killed (before you get the resurrect spell anyway) and how often you feel the need to switch out your parties after entering a battle.

Red91
Red91

@BenoitRen @Red91 If all that GL did was add a splash screen, then it's the source code that's at fault (so, Atlus), not GL.

Those points I gave were examples, but there could easily be stuff they had to change that none of us will really notice. Yay for PEGI....

@dakaze

zealot (plural zealots)

  1. One who is zealous, one who is full of zeal for his own specific beliefs or objectives, usually in the negative sense of being too passionate; a fanatic

I am not whining at ghostlight if you had learn to read, I was just pointing out that you were lying (bug in the U.S version) to cover up for them.

About the SLO thing just check my email and do a google search for enterlance, you will see what I mean.

I'm the owner of enterlance.free.fr which was the one and only SL english server.

I'm done arguing with you that is pointless, you won't change your mind neither will I.

Red91
Red91

@dakaze @Red91 You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

So, you did the translation for Shining Lore, did you? Proof? This is the internet after all.

You know, I give up. All your comments have been "Whine whine, insult, whine."

You're closer to being the zealot here, not me...

dakaze
dakaze

@Red91 "it seems like a lot of these issues were in the US release as well" < Qutoting yourself, as for someone "going into the game industry" do your research, these bug are NOT in the U.S release, you are entitled to your own opinion, but that does not give you the right to call people morons when you don't even know them.My team and I did the whole translation job for Shining Lore when we brought the client to english audience (remember enterlance?)

So I know a bit about what I'm talking about.

The fact is I paid of my money earned from my work to have a working product. Not to be lectured by some *** groupie zealot.

*Edited for bad language*

Red91
Red91

@dakaze @Red91 No, I'm someone who's going into the gaming industry and I'm fed up of all the morons who whine about everything, despite not knowing just how much work goes into a game and who couldn't even begin to do better themselves.

As far as I know, Ghostlight doesn't need to do any testing, as all they're doing is the localisation. You know, editing the dialogue to make sense in our language, ensuring content meets the PEGI rating, etc.

If you keep acting like that, more and more companies are gonna end up just chucking a game out and never bother fixing bugs/glitches when need. Why should they, when all they get for it is a bunch of idiots whining about every little thing?
