Devil Survivor Overclocked - Patch update!

Hi everyone.  I’m relieved to report that the Devil Survivor Overclocked patch has now passed through testing here and a submission to Nintendo is imminent.  The key issues regarding Devil Summoning and the Auction House have been fixed and Atlus have also improved the naming convention for characters and demons.  Once Nintendo have approved the patch, we are hopeful that it will be available to download from the eShop in the next few weeks.

At this point, a huge thank you should go out to Atlus for their team’s dedication and continued hard work in resolving the reported issues in the game.  Also, on behalf of Ghostlight I would once again like to apologise for the inconvenience these bugs have caused and thank you all for your patience while we work towards bringing the patch to the eShop.

In other Devil Survivor Overclocked news, I’m glad to report that Devil Survivor Overclocked is now back in stock. Those of you who don’t wish to wait for the patch before picking up your copy, can visit the store here to get your hands on this fantastic game.  Not only that, but anyone who buys it through the Ghostlight Store will still receive two free and exclusive unfolded A1 posters featuring Atlus’ incredible artwork from the game.  Please note that the newly manufactured stock will still require the patch to resolve the bugs.

Moving on to other news and work on the PC version of Agarest: Generations of War is continuing to progress really well.  Not only have several annoying bugs been squashed, but mouse controls have now been implemented in many areas of the game and while there are still some tweaks needed, I’ve found the mouse controls to be really intuitive, particularly during battles.  It’s almost as if the game is finding its natural home on the PC :)

That’s all for now. I’ll be back next week with more news from Ghostlight. Until then you can follow Ghostlight on our Twitter and Facebook pages, our Youtube Channel and our  Google + account, where we’ll be posting all the latest news from Ghostlight.  You can also follow me on Twitter for a more personal take on all things Ghostlight.

Any update on the DSO 3ds patch yet folks? It's 26th May , I've had the game nearly a month but am reluctant to start it until the patch is up.

Hi. Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you. We've spoken to Nintendo and they've told us that it should be available in Australia too however I can't 100% confirm this. Robert Warnes Matt Coelho

Hi. A thought did occur to me.

The next stock of the game will be same as the first one, or will include the patched version?

Hi everyone it's getting a little heated in here.  While I really don't like having to edit or delete posts I would appreciate it if you could tone down some of the comments to each other as we want this to be a place where people feel comfortable talking to each other, or talking to us either to complain, ask for more information or to make suggestions.

Thanks

Ross

@ Red91  your comments give me cancer, if Ghostlight is ignorant as you are , i'd have return my game right away , in the other hand Ghostlight is accept their responsibility with the issues and trying to fix it therefore I am alright with it and I can't wait for the patch to go live.

Weeks? Really? It's going to take weeks for the patch to come out and you're advising people to buy the game in it's current state. I'm never buying anything from ghostlight again. Your incompetence is shocking

with critical bugs like this that stop ppl progress the gameplay ( released after USA version for a year and no bugs on that version ) they should sack them lot who response for PAL version.

As an ardent fan of Devil Survivor, having imported the original a few years ago, I was disappointed with the localisation of DSO. Gamebreaking bugs aren't acceptable by any standard, and any company that ignores them (say, for example, Aksys and Virtue's Last Reward, which I refunded after I discovered the bug).
That being said, I respect that you've acknowledged the issue and are actively working toward a fix, which is why I bought myself a copy from your store right after I read this blog article. It's kind of naive actually, seeing as you've only said that you're GOING to submit the patch, and that there's a possibility it might get rejected/knocked back/not available to all regions/whatever, but I have high hopes in the Ghostlight team's attitude toward the project.

We've been waiting this long. Make us proud for believing you would do it!

I know the whole story. Atlus have other things to do than worry about european builds of old games so they delegate that stuff a few people who are incompetent and take ages. Read the interview with that ghostlight guy.

I don't like ghostlight giving massive thanks to Atlus when They were the ones who failed to put the bugs in the place. It doesn't sit right. Irrelevant anyway since they won't be publishing many Atlus games in future.

With Soul Hackers Brought over by NISA, I guess that doesn't leave Ghostlight many SMT/ATLUS games to publish anymore, that's pretty sad in a way.
Though that would be an occasion to get to work on a West Exclusive release of Persona 2 Eternal Punishment, now wouldn't that be cool ?

;-)

Congrats on the patch by the way !

@FortysixterUK

I’ve been told that the patch is nearly ready to go.  There have been no problems found with it by Nintendo so it’s looking good.

As soon as we have a firm date I will make an announcement on our blog and Facebook page.

@ArtemChashinov The next reprint will be available with the posters.  However you will still need to download the patch when that becomes available.

@Fianna101 We've not heard anything back yet but at the moment no news is good news as it means Nintendo haven't found any problems with the patch yet.

@KateNicoleJenson Another person who needs to grow up.... ' your comments give me cancer'? Really?

I can safely say that, based on what people have said here, I'm one of the few who actually understand the development and coding side of things.

Most of you are jumping on the bandwagon and crying about relatively minor issues. Unless GL is doing things differently from the norm, it's not them that do the coding, it's ATLUS. So, the bugs are not their fault. If the code is so bad that changing the few things needed for localisation can cause these bugs, then there is nothing at all that GL could do about this.

Just be thankful that a patch is being released. As a publisher, GL has no responsibility to provide a patch.

Red91
Red91

@Honkfish Grow up. Seriously. Ghostlight has done a lot more to fix this than almost any other publisher would.

On top of that, the game is in no way unplayable. The bugs are annoying, yes, but not game breaking and all have simple work arounds. So, there really is no issue with GL pushing the game.

@Honkfish We're not advising people to buy it.  We're simply informing them that it is back in stock for, to quote from the blogpost, "Those of you who don’t wish to wait for the patch" as people have been asking about it.

@Tom Tommy As I've said, none of the bugs are game breaking. Annoying, but not game breaking.

@tOoO Since NIS America has now signed a distribuation deal with Atlus for Europe. Hopefully they'll being most of there games in the future and we should get them faster. EOIV and Soul hackers are both coming out in a fairly reasonable time and it's only the beginning.

There are plenty of over things Ghostlight could do better for us in away.

@Red91 @KateNicoleJenson There is one thing they could have done and that's test the game to make sure they were no major bugs before it was released.

@Red91 the game freeze 3-5 mins isn't game breaking ? get your head out of the sand !

Are you going to tell me that not being able to summon demons isn't an issue? By all definition, this port is a laugh. It took them a year to essentially add their logo to the game, and now we've got people who can't even play it. I'm surprised that there are still fans like some guy who buy the game after this travesty of a localisation job. I'm honestly not surprised Atlus has given NIS the job of localising their next games.

@Daru @tOoO That would be fantastic and an insta-buy, but at this point I'd take the PS1 Classic over nothing :(

tOoO
tOoO

@Daru @tOoO Oh yeah, Persona 2 Eternal Punishment for PSP, It would be cool if Ghostlight translated that themselves.
They could even reach the wallets ot the overseas Atlus fandom if they made that ... even though there must be some pretty tight issues about the game since even Atlus USA couldn't make it. :-(

tOoO
tOoO

@landlock @tOoO I must agree that Ghostlight has been awfully slow to announce and publish the devil survivor titles, but I remember they have been pretty good with the release of Persona 2 Innocent Sin, managing to make an announcement before the US release. I was kind of hoping they would get better at it over time on the 3DS.

One other area in which Ghostlight has been pretty good too were the collector editions, and I doubt that NISA will bother with that kind of stuff (though we may still be in for a pleasant surprise).

Unfortunately I'm not really interested in the other things that Ghostlight may publish outside of SMT/Atlus titles, but I wish them the best of luck.

@Red91 @landlock @KateNicoleJenson

Er, what? How is it not GL's job? They published a game that was already 100% translated. It was broken. It was broken in the most obvious ways that anybody playing the game would have instantly found out.

@Red91 @KateNicoleJenson Though it's good it getting a patch of course.

Askys games released Blazing Souls in America with a game crashing bug and never patched it. Then Rising Star Games released the same game two years later in Europe with the same unpatched bug, LOL.

Noelemahc

@TomTommy @Red91 "Game breaking" means the game isn't completable. "Freezing temporarily" is not "game breaking".

some guy

Red91 Beat the final boss on the first playthrough (where the grind cap is still in place) using nothing but recarm, buddy. Then I'll believe it's still possible to progress. Hell, beat belzabool and I'll give it to you. Today I played DS2 for the first time, and I'm up to the fourth boss, Merak. Let me tell you that this fight is IMPOSSIBLE without summoning demons!

Now if you're gonna sit here and tell me that a stupid handicap that will prevent you from beating a boss without an arbitrary amount of effort doesn't halt game progress, you need a reality check.
Additionally, there have been reports on game-freezes.

Really now. I do appreciate the work they're doing. I appreciate that there's a patch even though they didn't have to bother. But are you forgetting that these glitches are not in the original, NTSC version? That means that they were added during the localisation progress, which means that if Ghostlight DIDN'T add a patch they'd be damned - people like myself wouldn't be buying.

you cannot deny it I hate it too, but I love the game more than I hate the sloppy development. And if the fans don't show support for their favourite games, who will?

Red91
Red91

@you cannot deny it I never said it's not an issue, it's just not game breaking.

Game breaking implies that you cannot advance at all. There are plenty of people who have completed the game without summoning extra demons mid-battle.
