Ghostlight Blog

Autumn is here and so are Agarest and Devil Survivor 2…almost!

Hi everyone,

Welcome back to the Ghostlight blog. We’re now one week from the release of Agarest: Generations of War on Steam and so far it’s all going very well indeed.  I have to say that it’s certainly been an interesting experience seeing all the comments and general interest the Steam community has in this game.  While Agarest is, at the time of writing, sitting nicely at number 12 in the Steam ‘Top Sellers’ chart, we’ve spent much of the past week enjoying the dizzy heights of the top 10…  not that I’ve been constantly refreshing the Steam chart or anything. ;)

If you haven’t gotten around to picking up this great SRPG yet, then you can pre-order it on Steam here with a 20% discount and also receive some free DLC.

Moving on to your weekly update on Devil Survivor 2 now and the good news is, that there is no news :) which means nothing has changed since last week.  So, we’re still expecting Devil Survivor 2 to be dispatched to us on the 11th October and we’ll begin sending your orders out to you all from the 15th October.  We’re still accepting pre-orders for Devil Survivor 2 so while you won’t get your name in the manual you will receive the fantastic “Gold Edition” if you pre-order the game from the Ghostlight store, here.

I just wanted to wrap up the blog by saying firstly that we’ve taken one big step towards being able to announce one of our new upcoming titles (by the way, please keep sending us your suggestions for new titles as your input is really helpful).  Secondly, that I’ve heard rumours that a Ghostlight Autumn Sale is in the pipeline so keep an eye on our site for news of bargain prices on some of our older titles next week.

I’ll be back next week, but until then why not follow us on our Twitter and Facebook pages, our Youtube Channel and our  Google + account, where we’ll be posting all the latest news from Ghostlight? You can also follow me on Twitter for a more personal take on all things Ghostlight.

I assume that porting and releasing console games on Steam is a new thing now? Well, I know only of Deadly Premonition besides Agarest, but that is undeniably a good thing.  Although Ghostlight seems to be scraping the barrel with getting licenses lately. Still, if all of Agarest series has a chance of getting onto Steam, that's awesome.

What I'd like to see are some Japan-only RPG's from Square-Enix, especially Dragon Quest VII or Dragon Quest X. SE probably just doesn't give them, altough Nintendo has helped the a bit with that.

mentioned it on the blog but would really love to see a release (digital or physical) of Agarest: Marriage on PSP.

How about Elminage 2 and 3?

Aren't there some Ace Attorney/perfect persecutor games we haven't gotten yet? Those would be fantastic.

I realised a game I forgot about when going through my PSP collection. Bought the Japanese version while in japan last year but would very much like to see an english release of Agarest: Marriage on PSP.

Fantastic news that Devil Survivor 2 is coming along fine :) Really looking forward to that!

And I'm stoked to hear that you have another upcoming reveal! Hope it's a retail game and not download-only, though. Thanks for your awesome work Ghostlight and keep the good games coming!

Oh yes, Sen no Kiseki! I had forgotten about it! It would be awesome.

Sen no Kiseki would be great.

Beyond the Labyrinth? I hear it sold poorly in Japan, so my hopes aren't quite high.

 [...]not that I’ve been constantly refreshing the Steam chart or anything.

Mind Zero on the Playstation Vita. You can't go wrong with this, as someone who imported and completed the Japanese edition, it's a poor mans Persona. But it's not a bad game, with the right marketing you could probably make a few quid off it Ghostlight.

You really should keep an eye on someone picking the game up for localization and see if you can strike a deal. I can't imagine this game costing Ghostlight much. It's also a JRPG so you'll have an audience already there, and I'm sure Ghostlight wants to be back on store shelves with more products lol

How many preorders for Devil Survivor 2 so far? Just to know =)

I wouldn't mind seeing Unchained Blades for PSP getting a similar treatment like Elminage did.

Like I said last time, a physical PSP-version of the sequel to "Trials in the Sky" would be awesome. I'd purchase it for any price!

@P I would love to see these too as physical releases.

@Meggido

Doesn't have an American release, and is also super niche, more so than the main series games. No one will risk translating and dubbing, only to sell like 10 copies lol

Matt1201
Matt1201

@Haseosan87

Unless someone translates it in English prior, for example in an American release. It's highly unlikely that Ghostlight will release.

@OfficerLafite Don't you think someone should get to the previous Trails titles first? Sen no Kiseki is number 7 in the series, if I remember correctly, and we only got the first so far, with the second on the way.

@Geekz_TV

Would you mind speaking in English? It's a bit disrespectful to comment a ton in French on an English speaking website.

Not trying make you mad or anything but come on.

@iamleyeti Je crois que ça n'arrivera jamais et que tu peux le choper en US directement, ça sera toujours moins cher même avec les fdp.

@Dark Kain Wasn't intended to be but I thought of that when I read through it again.  Was almost tempted to put baka at the end.

@RealSaturn I'm afraid that due to NDAs we've signed we can't give out numbers for the pre-orders.

@almighty Definitely. :-)

@Remy Would be fantasic if they could make it happen...

Sure, I thought the Elminage physical release was very good.

Elminage has had a lot of bad press from the sub-par translation, but the game is otherwise solid. The word is the later games in the series are even better, so it would be a shame to stop now... Especially since these types of games are not the most text-heavy, and therefore probably not the hardest game to localize...

Matt1201
Matt1201

@BenoitRen

It's quite confusing isn't it? There are 3 other games that have been released in America by random companies on the PSP from the Gagharv trilogy.

Specifically.

The Legend of Heroes II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch

The Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermillion

The Legend of Heroes III: Song of the Ocean

People forget these lol. None have ever been released in Europe and were released in America many years ago on the PSP. Ghostlight potentially have 3 games here if they're still interested in the PSP.

@Matt1201 As far as I know these are tweets that involve (but aren't directed to) Ghostlight that automatically get mirrored in the comments.

@Ross Brierley

Hope it doesn't detract you from going after other Atlus games regardless of Sega owning them.

Meggido
Meggido

@Ghostlight_Ross it's a new JRPG being released in japan by Compile Heart. It doesn't actually come out till OCtober 10th in Japan so I'm not surprised you haven't heard anything about it.

P
P

@BenoitRen Yes, it's just too bad the reviews were done before the patch, making it a better game than what the metacritic average lets on. Elminage deserved better, that's why I hope Ghostlight would bring the rest by themselves. They certainly couldn't do a worse job with the localization!

BenoitRen
BenoitRen

@P The game got a patch about half a year ago that gave it a better (but not perfect) translation, and it's what we got as a physical release.

BenoitRen
BenoitRen

@Matt1201 I don't think these games are worth the effort, exactly because they already got a physical release in North America. There's also the problem of their Babelfish quality translation.

Matt1201
Matt1201

@BenoitRen

Oh, just seemed odd to me to see a whole bunch of French on here. While I appreciate other languages, it came across as disrespectful to talk in another language on an English website, it'd be the same as a random English person going on an all French website and speaking in English lol. Seems so er..

Flameche

@iamleyeti Ah ben gogo, dans ce cas, la version 3DS n'arrivera probablement jamais ^^

@Matt1201

most likely. I was just making a comment about what it was.

@Matt1201 I'd also love to get more Atelier games.

Matt1201
Matt1201

@Meggido

Wouldn't this be a  NIS America published game here and in America? NIS America seem to have a monopoly on compile heart games lately.

It'l probably be as fruitless as Ghostlight trying to get Hyper dimension Neptunia on the Vita.

I would love to see someone give Dokuro a physical release on the Vita, it already has a publisher that has bought the download rights for the PSN store but no one has the physical rights.

Not to mention the Atelier games, surely someone could partner up with Tecmo Koei and release in stores?
