Applications for the Agarest beta now open

Hi everyone. Laughing Jackal have been hard at work for the past week on the PC version of Agarest: Generations of War and as promised we are now able to open applications for the closed beta.

[Edit] Thank you to everyone who applied for a spot on the Agarest beta.  Applications for the Agarest Beta are now closed for the time being.  We'll be getting back to everyone who applied later this week. [/Edit]

The minimum pc requirements to run Agarest: Generations of War are:

  • Windows XP or later
  • 2 Ghz Processor
  • 2 Gb RAM
  • DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card
  • Graphics card: needs to support v3 shaders

To whet your appetites, I thought some of you might be interested in seeing some screenshots of Agarest: Generations of War running on my PC. The screens may not yet be final but I thought they might give an interesting insider’s look at where we are now.

Finally I’d just like to remind you that the Ghostlight PSP titles are still on sale this week on PSN. More details of the sale, which ends on the 3rd of July, can be found in last week’s post. With amazing JRPGs such as Persona 3 Portable, Fate/EXTRA and Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky available for half price or less now is the perfect time to pick up these amazing games.

That’s all for now. I’ll be back next week with more news from Ghostlight. Until then you can follow Ghostlight on our Twitter and Facebook pages, our YouTube Channel and our Google + account, where we’ll be posting all the latest news from Ghostlight. You can also follow me on Twitter for a more personal take on all things Ghostlight.

Seems I found this too late for beta access, I loved this series but I recently gave my PS3 to a friend for his son and lost the series as a result......Looking forward to getting back into it on the PC!

We have now selected people for the Agarest closed beta. If you applied you should be receiving an email soon.

2 GB of RAM? That's insane considering that the Xbox 360 game ran on a system with 512 MB of RAM. Windows XP itself needs about 256 MB of RAM for itself to be happy, so you'd be looking at a requirement of 768 MB of RAM...

Hope my Email didn't go to their spam. No reply/confirmation sucks :(
Anyone know when they will be sending out invites?

All the things they are requesting one to submit are required to gain access to your Steam account minus the PC specs. I'd seriously NOT be doing this.

@BenoitRen Ram/Cpu frequency doesn't mean the same as before in computer industry... An atom 1ghz is WAY more powerful than a pentium 3 1ghz... Hardware architechture is the most important thing nowadays... (even tablets nowadays have more than 2gb of ram...).

@Kareeda We're still sorting through all the emails we've got.  Expect replies to start going out next week.

@sakulukk We're looking into selling  a physical version but at the moment I don't have any news on it.

@tickdickler @Ross Brierley We looked at lots of things.  The first goal was to get a good range of PC specs.  But while doing that we also looked at the rest of the application to see how it fitted what we were looking for.

We paid particular attention to the free form section where people could tell us why they though they should be selected.

After we'd ensured we had a good range of PC specs we only had a very limited number of places left which means that unfortunately we weren't able to include a lot of great applicants.

Depending how things go we might be able to add more people in the future though.

Plllleeeeeaaaassseeeeee do. I'll be buying it day one if it happens (assuming it's drm free). If you don't do a drm free physical release will you consider GoG? :)

@BenoitRen @JesusBlanco Remember though that specs aren't listed separately for different operating systems and I believe Vista for example requires more memory than XP.

In addition to that a PC user will typically be running some programs such as a virus guard or Steam itself in the background.

Finally PC's aren't typically as optimised for gaming as a console is.

While it might be possible to get the game to run ok on a system with less memory depending on the rest of your set up we wouldn't want to promise that.

@JesusBlanco The PC version is based on the Xbox 360 version, which wasn't released in Europe, but was released in North America courtesy of Aksys Games with a better translation.

@Vashe Actually you could still play your steam games while being offline, you could still open steam despite not being connected to the internet and play the game.   Or you could just open the folder with the game in it, and play it.  Even add a shortcut if you want to.  Most steam games aren't drm.

@Lev I'll suggest GOG to my boss.  I believe it's already due to appear on other online retailers aside from Steam.

@Lev They're loosing time adapting the game to the steam API so why bother releasing "drm free" for the few drm-haters out there ? >< Personnaly I absolutely dont care about drm's for JRPG because there are so few JRPG on pc... I'd even buy it if it was a combo of Steam-GFW-Securom drm's ><
