An update on Devil Survivor 2

Hi everyone.  Pre-orders for the amazing Shin Megami Tensei:  Devil Survivor Overclocked have been open for a week now and have been selling so well that our first consignment of stock is nearly gone already.  So a big thank you to everyone who has pre-ordered this game either through our store or another retailer.  If you haven’t pre-ordered Devil Survivor Overclocked from us yet remember that you can get two amazing A1 posters with the game when you order here.

In last week’s blog we also promised an update on Devil Survivor 2.  Currently the European version of the game is finished and has been approved for release by Nintendo.  However, without going into too much detail, retail support for DS titles is understandably low at the moment making it difficult for us to release the title.  We haven’t given up though and we’re currently looking into several different ways of making this fantastic game available to you all.  One way that I’ve heard being discussed on the Ghostlight grapevine is that we may release a Collector’s Edition of the game exclusively through our website which will mean we’d need your full support in making this release happen.  I’ve probably said too much already, but you can expect more news on this in the coming weeks.

Moving away from the handhelds and back to PSN for a moment, I’m happy to say that our sister company Midas have at last released Atlus’ superb action game Maken Shao: Demon Sword on PSN priced at just £3.99/€4.99!  If you want to get your hands on this fantastic game then you can pick it up on the PSN Store here.

Still on the subject of PSN, those of you who have yet to pick up Agarest: Generations of War Zero and Agarest: Generations of War 2 for PS3 will be pleased to hear that both of their prices have been slashed until the 27th March as part of the PSN Store’s Expedition Sale.  Agarest: Generations of War Zero has had its price reduced from €24.99/£19.99 to just €8.99/£7.29 and Agarest: Generations of War 2 has had its priced reduced from €34.99/£18.99/AU$51.95 to an amazing €9.99/£7.99/AU$14.45.  If you haven’t already got these fantastic games you can pick up Agarest Zero from here and Agarest 2 from here.   More information on Agarest: Generations of War Zero can be found here and please go here for more information on Agarest 2.

That’s all for now.  Remember to pre-order Devil Survivor Overclocked here and I’ll be back next week with more news from Ghostlight. Until then you can follow Ghostlight on our Twitter and Facebook pages, our Youtube Channel and our  Google + account, where we’ll be posting all the latest news from Ghostlight.  You can also follow me on Twitter for a more personal take on all things Ghostlight.

A little late to the party, but I would definitely, without hesitation buy a collector's edition. As a collector I'm a sucker for fleshed out releases like that, so I even prefer a CE over a conventional retail release.

Thank you for working the magic~

I'd buy it I'm currently playing overclocked and i am in love with it. It'll be better when patched but i'd buy 2 for the amazing story that shin megami tensei games have and i'm a big ghostlight fan

After reading this article, I'd definitely prefer to wait for the 3DS version

If you release devil survivor 2, i will also not only buy it but will tell all the people i know to buy it too.

We will support you ghostlight, as you support us by bringing us fantastic games across the sea.

Even though I'd much rather wait a few years and (hopefully if localised) have a 3DS version of 2 to go with Overclocked due to my anal OCD about these things, I'll most likely cave in to temptation to a DS version if the collectors edition is really interesting.

Also if you are struggling for ideas of what to do for a collector's  then maybes do a fan poll out of really cool items such as OST, Figure, Plushie, a digital fan pack, hats, headphones, bags, posters and so on

Hmm I was really looking forward to this but since the 3DS remake has just been announced in Japan, I think I'd rather wait for the updated version. Considering that they've added more content to Devil Survivor one in the remake, chances are Atlus are going to do the same for 2.

Please release Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 for the Nintendo DS? I've been holding back on buying the North American version of the game because I'd like support Ghostlight! And even though I don't have the ability to purchase directly from the Ghostlight Store at the moment, I think I'll be able to find a way if there is no other way for you to release it than through your Store.

I'm a big fan of the Shin Megami Tensei series, and have been looking forward for this game for a while now. And since you said yourself that the game is already completely finished, there's no reason not to release it. While Nintendo DS-support may be low because of the amazing Nintendo 3DS, that doesn't have to mean the game won't sell. DS games work without problem on the Nintendo 3DS, and thus people who like these types of games, might not find many other things like it on the system, especially since Etrian Odyssey IV hasn't been release in Europe yet...

Really hoping for some good news in the coming weeks, Ross!

Thanks ghostlight team for all work you done on games like this.

I am interested in picking up both games at some point although it may not be straight away and would like to buy both through your store so i hope if you can't bring out second game in retail that it will be in your store to buy , best of luck with these and other future games you work on.

To be frank, a lot of you are sounding a little ungrateful. GL have put the time and money into getting the DS version approved over here and you are acting a bit like children who want the newest and shiniest thing out.

I say, bring on the DS version, collectors edition would be lovely. I for one would not buy it if it was download only.

Honkfish
Honkfish

Release it on the eShop for a fair price or don't bother releasing it at all. A collectors edition for a DS game only released on your official site and for what I assume will cost a lot of money will sell about 3 copies.

Get your **** together and get it out on the eShop.

TeePee
TeePee

I don't really see the point in eShop release for Devil Survivor 2. I mean, it's possible to play it only on 3DS, right? And the Break Code version is coming for 3DS. Why would anyone buy the eShop version of the original if they can get the Break Code version later on the same device?

As for a Collector's Edition of the original DS2 for normal DS, I'm all in for that. Having waited for almost a year for this game (since the announcement) to be released in PAL format, I really do want to buy it.

A Collector's Edition would be very appreciated, i think (and i hope) that it could be the best solution to release a DS game now. Anyway,  you'll have my support, totally, Limited Edition or not.

@Flameche D'un autre côté, les préco marchent super bien, déja ça de pris, moi qui pensais que l'annonce de la rerelase 3DS allait saper ça.

As much as I want to support you, there'd really have to be something incredible in that collector version to make me buy that game again.
Maybe an eshop version would be a good idea ?

Ok, I hereby invite everyone else interested in Devil Survivor 2 for Nintendo DS to do the same as I do right now: "Dear Atlus, I hereby officially promise to buy the Devil Survivor 2 Collector's Edition through the Ghostlight website". Let's make this happen.

Publish best Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, and DS2 is better to issue when it hits the 3DS.

Phreakar

@ghostlightgames Yup, interesting news. I'd be up for buying DS2 from your site if you decide to do it that way.

Daru

I wouldn't buy the DS version. An european release of the 3DS version would be be an instant purchase though. Persona 2 Eternal Punishment PSP(!) would be one as well not matter how unlikely and off topic it is. :)

Matteo Bo Franyo
Matteo Bo Franyo

I would buy DS 2 for ds, but maybe you should consider to localize DS2 overclocked for 3ds (so region locked) just announced by Atlus...meanwhile you could publish soul hackers :D

Matt Congdon

I certainly would buy a collectors edition of Devil Survivor 2 when the time comes. Hope to hear about it soon, really looking forward to playing Overclocked in the meantime :)

DS2 Collectors Edition would be nice to bring the game to EU. Please make it happen Ghostlite !

Noelemahc

I second the notion to push for the 3DS update instead. Go to ATLUS, not ATLUS USA, talk to them. I'm sure they can see the merits of satiating a starving market as well as anyone with a brain can. (Also, it would totally rock to not have to wait another two to three years to see it released)

Chris
Chris

Release the 3DS version instead.

I know you have probably already invested money in the normal DS version, but it's just... not going to sell well at all now that the 3DS version is on the horizon and we all want that.

landlock
landlock

I don't to say this but you may as well wait for the 3DS version which has a 99% of getting a English release in America anyway. A limited website would be nice if there is enough interest but since the DS isn't region free I get the feeling so many people have already imported it.

Is a download version of Devil Survivor 2 on the 3DS possible?

Andrefpvs
Andrefpvs

Ross, is there any chance Ghostlight can work with Atlus to get Persona 2: Eternal Punishment (PS1 Classic) rated and released on EU PSN as a US import? I sincerely hope you can do this, since you released Persona 2: Innocent Sin and us European Vita owners can't complete the Persona collection if P2:EP is not released in the EU PS Store :(

Thank you, and sorry for going a bit off-topic here.

@ghostlightgames Maybe do an online release for DS2 for those that really want it, then do a full retail release for Break Code later on?

BiscuitTickler
BiscuitTickler

@Foxfyre

I'd have thought it would make more sense really. As they say the market for DS games is more limited now especially compared to the 3DS. If they were to eventually release the 3DS version as well as the DS version then they'd have less sales as quite a lot of people would be less likely to buy it if they already own the DS version and not willing to shell out on a slight upgrade. Same as quite a few people possible wouldn't be willing to buy the DS version if there's an upgraded version out there we might hopefully eventually get.

landlock
landlock

@TeePee  Well the point is DS2 on the DS is now and Break Code will be like in 2 years, heh.

JWiley_12
JWiley_12

@tOoO I dunno, I want to be able to play the game both on my DS and 3DS. Not sure that would work with an eShop version. Also I prefer a phyiscal release. Ghostlight have had really nice collector's editions in the past.

@landlock I don't think it's possibe but I'll talk to our senior producer about it.

@Andrefpvs No problem :)

I'll mention it to the rest of the team here and see if there's anything we can do.

@phoenyx117 An online release for DS2 is one of the options we're looking into but it will depend on how much interest there is,

Foxfyre
Foxfyre

@BiscuitTickler @Foxfyre

Yes, but it is indeed only a possibility that we would get the 3ds version eventually. There is no actually claim to them having the right to bring out the 3ds version and if they indeed have we would probably have to wait a year or two to get it.

I would much rather have a nice limited edition of a game to buy, than sit around waiting for something that might never happen.

TeePee
TeePee

@landlock Even more reason to release the DS version now, then. And it can be played on both DS and 3DS. eShop version would be only for 3DS, like the Break Code version, which would make the eShop version kind of a weird solution.

landlock
landlock

@Ross Brierley @landlock

Yeah I don't remember any DS getting released that way but you'd think Nintendo would have embraced the idea from the start. That's one of the main reasons they are still able to continue to release PSP games despite the PsVita being out (Corpse Party 1 + 2, Carnage Heat, Generations Of Chaos 6, Elminage) it's a very handy feature.

@JWiley_12 @BiscuitTickler @Foxfyre  Not sure my Japanese will be up to translating games for a while.  So if it comes down to me having to translate it we're going to be in trouble :)

We did actually translate the first Agarest game and I think although I'd have to check that the Crash City Mayhem translation is ours too although that has a lot less text :).

In general we do prefer to work with an American publisher but should the right game come along at the right price we would be prepared to commission our own translation

JWiley_12
JWiley_12

@BiscuitTickler @Foxfyre I think we should seize any opportunity of a Megaten game release in Europe. Devil Survivor 2 (on DS) is ready and waiting, a 3DS version might not even get a translation if Atlus USA doesn't feel like it. I don't see Ghostlight doing that part of the job as well (afaik they haven't done that yet with any of their releases), even though Ross's Japanese is gradually improving. ;-)

And in recent years Ghostlight's been our best shot to get Megaten games released, so we should support them fully.

BiscuitTickler
BiscuitTickler

@Foxfyre @BiscuitTickler

I'm not massively disagreeing with you. I'm happy we're even getting this and I've looked forward to it for awhile. I just think that if they were to get the license to bring out the 3DS version here that quite a few people might not get it because of only just recently having gotten the original version of it.(Recently being a year or two because hell, this stuff takes time)

If they ended up not bringing out the DS version to bring out the 3DS version instead I'd understand because of DS sales not being that high and the release of the DS version would very possibly lower the 3DS game sales.

JWiley_12
JWiley_12

Also, remember how Europe eventually (a year later) got Devil Summoner (for PS2) but never got Devil Summoner 2 (also PS2).

JWiley_12
JWiley_12

@Foxfyre @BiscuitTickler Exactly, if the waiting period for Devil Survivor Overclocked is anything to go by: it was released in the US in 2011. So that would mean two more years...not to mention that the original Devil Survivor was released in 2009 (!) and Europe has yet to experience the story for the first time.

@landlock  Having never owned a PSP it's something I really take advantage of on my Vita :)
