Dungeon Crawling

Thu, 12th Apr 2018 | Posted by Ross

Hi everyone. These past few week's I've been busy dungeon crawling, and no I'm not talking about exploring the darker reaches of the Ghostlight Warehouse, although rumour has it many strange and wonderful things can be found there.

Instead I've been playing through the two rather excellent dungeon crawlers that we're currently working on, one of which we should be able to actually announce very soon, possibly next week in fact!

While both of these games are very different, they do have two important similarities. First of all, they both look really awesome and are great fun to play, and secondly they pose quite a challenge and are genuinely testing my gaming abilities. I think my main problem is that I have a habit of trying to push a touch too far at times, meaning that I've had plenty of opportunities to see the game over screens :(I also have a habit of being a little too cautious when it comes to managing consumable items, when I'd clearly be better off - at times - using items up at much faster rate.

The good news is that game conversions themselves are progressing really well (certainly far better than my skill at playing them) and I think we should be ready to start the closed beta very soon after their announcement.  So watch this space if you'd like to take part :)

That’s all for now. I’ll be back soon with more news from Ghostlight, but until then why not follow us on our TwitterInstagram and Facebook pages, our Youtube Channel and our  Google + account, where we’ll be posting all the latest news from Ghostlight. A second Japanese Dungeon Crawler arrives!

Fri, 16th Mar 2018 | Posted by Ross

Hi everyone! I had a nice surprise this week, as the first PC build of a second Japanese Dungeon Crawler arrived in the Ghostlight offices this week, which suggests that 2018 could be a really good year for any of you who are looking for some excellent Japanese examples of the genre on your PC.  (From our side, Al is particularly pleased to have a chance to dig into both games.)

In even better news, this time the first PC build included walls and a floor :) although there is currently an issue with the tutorial, which given my poor skills at dungeon crawlers is a bit awkward for me.

I'm personally having a hard time picking a favourite between the two games that we're working on right now: they both feel quite unique in their own way, but I'm definitely enjoying them for different reasons so I can't wait to be able to tell you more about them.  Speaking of which, I've been told that we're expecting to be able to announce one of the two very soon, so keep your eyes on the blog for more information as soon as I'm allowed to share it! :)

In other news, it's taken a while, but I have finally managed to put some of the photos from my trip to Japan online, so if you'd like to check them out then take a look at this album.

That’s all for now. A new build of the Dungeon Crawler has arrived!

Thu, 1st Mar 2018 | Posted by Ross

Hello everyone from a very snowy and picturesque England!

While the heavy and unexpected snowfall might be keeping me stuck at home this week, fortunately it can't keep this week's Ghostlight blog from making its way out into the world. (For those of you who live in snowier parts of the world, I'm aware that it doesn't take much snow to shut the entire South East of England down!)

Nor was the snow enough to prevent the latest build of our upcoming, and as yet unannounced, Japanese dungeon crawler from getting through to me. This one was definitely well worth the wait. While I was already enjoying playing through earlier builds of the game, having both the walls and floor invisible in many dungeons (and having to navigate entirely via the mini map) was a bit of a pain. So, I was very pleased that when I entered a dungeon in the latest build, I immediately saw that both walls and floor are now featured in all their upscaled glory!  Well done team!

In addition, an almost equally annoying bug where the sound effects were mixed up (leading to the victory fanfare playing EVERY-SINGLE-TIME that you picked up an item T_T) has also been fixed!  Deep joy!

While this is only the third PC build of the newest addition to our Steam lineup - meaning that there is still quite some way to go the team are already making huge advances and the game is looking great. I'm really looking forward to being able to tell you more about it very soon!
